My class had the opportunity to try out three pencil grips from The Pencil Grip, Inc. and we also got to try out some fun Kwik Stix Solid Tempera Paint.
I was very excited to try to the pencil grips and paint and tried them out with my own kids before trying them out with my kiddos in my class. Ethan liked all three of the pencil grips and found them easy to use.
Madi and Ethan loved the paint. The paint claims to be mess free and I was little skeptical about how mess free it can really be, but it really is mess free! I also loved how bold the colors were and that the paint had to be rolled up so too much of it was not getting everywhere. Ethan kept referring to them as paint crayons and that is a great way to describe them. After how much my kids enjoyed the pencil grips and paint I couldn't wait to try them with my class.
I tried the pencil grips first. I have a number of students still learning how to correctly grasp writing utensils and I did see an improvement with many of them when using the pencil grips.
There are three types of grips you can choose from:
All of my students found the grips comfortable. A couple of my students that have some sensory concerns at first were hesitant about using them because of the smooth feel, however, after I helped them they were more than willing to use them and did well. I definitely will continue to use these with my class as I can see them holding the pencil correctly and not holding it in a fist. All of my students enjoyed using the pencil grips and liked the fun colors that they came in. Some of my students did have a little bit of trouble holding them initially because it was new, but the longer they used the grips, the more comfortable I saw them become with them and the more I saw them start using the correct grasp.
We tried out the painting and my kids LOVED it! Here they are having fun with the 'paint crayons' and they were mess free! :) They loved how bright all the colors were too!
